Estrella del Mar is undertaking renovations…
If getting there is half the fun, Brian Werner and the staff at Estrella del Mar should have a blast in the next couple of years.
The managing director at the resort about a 15-minute ride from Mazatlan’s airport and 30 minutes from the heart of the city has grand plans for the site that include enhancements, renovations and additions for staying and playing. When completed, the 1,000-acre resort and residential property that includes 4 miles of secluded coastline will have a beach club, expanded tennis and swimming areas, a new golf clubhouse and driving range, more dining options, hotel rooms and condominiums, and new homes on staked-out lots.
That bright future doesn’t cast a shadow over the present, however, so if solitude and relaxation are your go-to emotions, getting to Estrella del Mar is worthy of consideration, now or in the future.
“If you want to golf, it’s a great place,” Werner said. “If you’re a business person, it’s a great place to chill and reconnect. Families can find enjoyment as well. This is a piece of paradise, with one of the longest open beaches you’ll see in one of the most serene areas you can visit.”
Though not technically a golf resort, Estrella del Mar Golf and Country Club is one of only three courses in Mazatlan and its surrounding area (see box). Golf director Jorge Torres, who played at USC from 1995-99, has been in charge of the property’s course for a little more than a year and is excited about what lies ahead.
